Fanie Grégoire is the founder of Dr. Sketchy's Montreal branch, a successful life-drawing event happening once a month showcasing stunnings burlesques models-artists. She has a DEC in arts and letters with specialization in comics and also completed classes in Animation films at the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal. She is an illustrator, a body painting artist and make-up artist. In her free times, she loves to write on her bilingual blog, Bulle Créative. Fanie is one of the three founding members of the Montreal's craft Mafia.

How did you get started?
I was reading an interview with Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's
founder, in Croq Zine. I loved
the concept of bringing artists together while drawing a beautiful
model and drinking beer! So I decided to start my own.
Biggest Hurdle you encountered?
Finding a local to organize the event was the hardest thing but,
luckily, not impossible. The first Dr. Sketchy's Montreal started at
Chez Baptiste, then we moved to our current local, the Mainline Theater.
Lessons learned the hard way?
To make a budget!
Any advice about splitting your time between a day job and your business?
Get yourself organized and don't be afraid to learn about time management.
Future Projects?
Yes, many! Dr. Sketchy is one thing, but I would love to have my very own business.
Favorite Indie Business(es)?
Rose Flash and Pink Pam, of course! ;-) I also
love La Puce à l'agonie's
and Velvet Moustache's plush toys. And I am a fan of handmade cosmetics
such as Le Savon
Populaire. There are so many indie businesses that I don't know of
and can't wait to discover.

Best thing about:
Running Dr. Sketchy: I get to meet so many nice artists and it really
inspires me to see all those people drawing together and having a good
time. This is what art is all about!
Living in Montreal: I love it's multicultural background and how it
makes us grow as a community. And there is always something to do in
Montreal for all budgets!
Worst thing about:
Running Dr. Sketchy: I started it thinking "Hey, I'll get to draw a
sexy model for free!" Yeah, right! I hardly ever stop to draw as I am
usually too busy to do so.
Living in Montreal: Driving can be challenging!
